Why Inégal
The name Ensemble Inégal carries an association with French baroque music and the articulation called “inégalité”, our ensemble’s intention however reaches much further. We dedicate ourselves to music from the baroque, through romanticism up to the contemporary. Our main pillar is the great oeuvre of Jan Dismas Zelenka, but otherwise Ensemble Inégal does not draw any borders with respect to the style period of the music it performs. We are fascinated not only by Zelenka or Capricornus, but also by Dvořák, Britten, Martinů, Pärt and Tormis, and this all in the wisdom, that the effort for and authentic performance should always be self-evident for each performer of whichever music.
“Inégal” literally means “different” – a different approach in the search for interpretational values, a different repertory, a different occupation with musicians. Ensemble Inégal intentionally avoids the musical mainstream, presenting its audience each year with unknown baroque music and that is why is has an unparalleled number of Zelenka world premiere performances and recordings on its account. We will always be different, i.e. “Inégal”…
